Recursively descending into directories, checking if an object is a file or
a dir and doing something to it if it's a file, e.g., stream editing it and
placing it in a corresponding location in another directory hierarchy, is
boilerplate in the Unix world. Easy enough to do in a simple shell script,
e.g., in bash or, as JY points out, in Python.

John Candidi might google for examples, e.g., "shell script recurse
directories editing files" seems to return a lot of hits.

This sort of stuff is a LOT easier to do Unix style than in CL. Because
that's what Unix is about, dir hierarchies.
