There's three schools of thought.
School 1: Either use a separate port or vlan to go from your HMC to your
Power system than you use for connecting to your HMC from your intRAnet.
Apparently some people feel more secure this way. It's ok for all workers
to physically connect to the OS with payroll and other data but a sin to
have it so they can get to the address of the Power system management port.
School 2: Use one port and the same subnet. Makes it easier for the
HMC's to be redundant to multiple machines. Also, if you need to connect
directly to the management port with the HMC (ASMI perhaps) then you can.
School 3: Isolate it completely. Oh, you want your HMC to connect to IBM
to report hardware issues? You want to be able to download HMC patches?
Oh you want to be able to use your HMC to download firmware patches? Well
you can forget that stuff.
Apparently you are in school 3. It was a bad decision. Fix it.

yes, I am using the web UI... My browser tab (chrome) is a big
rectangle, but my window and desktop are taking up only 1/4 the space
in the bottom middle...

hi Gerald,--
We have systems running with vHMC on Hyper-V, VMWare and VirtualBox.
Yes, Virtualbox and Hyper-V are unsupported, but run smoothly.
What do you need? You mean you don't like the Web UI (Enhanced+ )?
