I assume by "virtual tape" you are not talking about a VTL, or Virtual Tape Library. But, instead you are talking about
CRTDEVTAP DEVD(TAPVRT01) RSRCNAME(*VRT) ASSIGN(*YES)

With VTL, I do it all the time. With the TAPVRT01 thing, I've not tried a full system save.
I assume you know the downfall of this thing, like, how would you restore from that, etc. And you plan on FTPing that to another system and doing a DUPTAP to other tape. Like before we had VTL and we wanted to do a remote save, FTP it over to another system and do a DUPMEDBRM there. Yes, BRMS recognizes these virtual tapes, and plays well with them. We normally used them for less than full system saves though.
