File Monitors let you monitor a list of specified stream files for changes. I used only the File Status metric, which fired an event every time the specified stream file was changed. From the help, here's what you can watch:

The following types of metrics are available:
Size
Monitors for changes to the size of the files. You can specify one size to trigger the threshold and another size to reset the threshold.
File Status
Monitors for any change to the file (any additions or deletions that are saved to the file).
Text
Monitors for a specified text string. You can choose to trigger the threshold the first time the specified string appears in the file, or when the string appears a specified number of times.
