because i REALLY liked how i did it before... very flexible and simply like
to see the json input string in my pgm if I choose to debug it (and
output)..

it's ok, i ALMOST got it working the way i want exactly with the help of
members on this forum.

It's probably closer than you think, unless you can tell me what about it
doesn't do what you want.

Why are you passing JSON using a GET? Use a POST, then you can use YAJL to
read it in as described. No decoding of data needed at all. If you don't
know how to do a POST and your using GET because you can do it from your
browser, download Postman. That tool is built specifically for this and
you can do a POST.

I've seen a lot of people getting into web services now as they become more
used. Why stab in the dark trying to get it working vs. take advice from
those of us that have been doing this successfully for years?

Just some friendly advice.

thanks Bradley - still not quite what i'm looking for...

i think i may just about have it with the SK yahlserver setup...

so I can now reach my endpoint...

my iseries YAJL pgm gets called but there seems to be some encoding going
on that is throwing off my json string...

This is what I'm calling from ARC using the GET method...

/rest/wsr00000/{"env":"D3X","command":"GET_LOAN_BORROWER","payload":[{"loanNumber":2428}]}

in debug over on the i, I get this interpretation of it...

EVAL l_url
L_URL =
....5...10...15...20...25...30...35...40...45...50...55...60
1 '/rest/wsr00000/%7B%22env%22:%22D3X%22,%22command%22:%22GET_L'
61 'OAN_BORROWER%22,%22payload%22:[%7B%22loanNumber%22:2428%7D]%'
121 '7D

how can I preserve the original string format of the json input?

Ive tried enclosing the json input string in single quotes but no luck.

I've also tried an escape version of the string with no luck...

{\"env\":"D3X",\"command\":\"GET_LOAN_BORROWER\",\"payload\":[{\"loanNumber\":2428}]}

any suggestions? almost there!

Jay

Here's a simple example I did a while back for someone else:
https://www.fieldexit.com/forum/display?threadid=522

It doesn't read in data from the web page, but adding that is simple
using
YAJL and yajl_stdin_load_tree(). Nothing fancy needed at all.

Read in the JSON from the request.
Do what you will with it
Write out the response.

i understand how you would be confused...

wipe all the scott klement webservice api stuff from your head
for
a
second...

last company i was at, i was tasked with writing RPGLE pgms with
YAHL
(with
no PCML h-spec) and they would receive a string parm in (json
format)
and a
string parm out (json format), that would I would of course
produce
in
my
rpgle pgm.
These backend pgms i wrote were invoked from an http endpoint.
I'm trying to recreate that same http endpoint now.
