Brad--

We're running all of our partitions on the same box. But we have a backup box downtown busily cloning any changes to our production system. We have two V9000 SANS running Global Mirror with Change volumes. The clone runs about 10-15 minutes behind. The Power box downtown sits there waiting for something to happen; the V9000s talk to each other directly. Theoretically, if a problem occurs, we boot the downtown system and should have a system running in less than an hour. That's as much insurance as we've paid for.

For daily backups we're using Full System Flash Copy and running an Option/21 to tape from the Flash Copy every night. The FSFC and Option/21 happens on our production box.

*>Knock on wood<* The issue you mentioned hasn't occurred. I don't like to speak about it; Henry (the ghost our 3rd shift operator keeps mentioning) has big ears! Sort of like that 'Mayhem' guy in the commercials.

One of our other divisions has another Power system accessing the V9000 downtown, and uses QEDD to keep their copy up to date within seconds.

Subject: Question on Backup Systems running on same hardware as Production

I've been curious about this for a while.

Do shop run Backup partitions on the same system has production, but just a
different partition?

If so, how does that work in a system failure?
