1-4095 is the range.

For any two LPARs that expect to communicate, the virtual Ethernet line needs to be using the same VLAN number.

In the usu7al case it's not used in IBM i but it CAN BE. If you check the box for 802.1q compatibility when creating the virtual Ethernet then you can list multiple VLANs in that section. With that you CAN specify any VLAN in that list when creating the IBM i TCP/IP Interface (ADDTCPIFC). If you leave the VLAN number at the default then the VLAN number specified in "Port Virtual Etherent (VLAN ID)" is used for that Interface.

I'm reviewing my notes for creating a virtual Ethernet adapter.
Regarding the VLAN id, this number simply has to match across the LPARS, correct?
It's not used in any of the configuration, correct?
Also, what is the range of numbers for VLAN id?
