I agree, if IBM sets that flag as they do on a list I just sent out, the
system is clever enough to recreate as needed. It's just a pain to have to
justify errors in the backup.

I've done multiple migrations and ALWSAV(*NO), on the stuff IBM sets it, has
been a complete nonissue. No problems whatsoever.
The 2 or 3 directories I set it are documented excessively, and individually
listed in our downtime save instructions.
I reserve it for:
- QFPNWSSTG
- Image catalogs.

Also, is there a 2nd list of those items that IBM will automatically
recreate if they don't exist?.
This is one my last items in testing my P7 to P9 migration that I have as

I would avoid the ALWSAV attribute except for objects that are
re-creatable
or just plain not needed, since there is no way to back them up until that
attribute is changed. I've been involved in too many recoveries where the
assumption is that a restricted state save will get those objects (it
won't,
ever.) and the customer is in a bit of a pickle now since they normally
have
data that's needed.
IBM sets that flag on about 15 or so directories/objects in the IFS which
is
infuriating since now you can never get a completely error free save. I
get
that IBM will recreate the objects as needed, but forcing every save into
an
error state is not my favorite thing to do.

For libraries, you want to use BRMS GUI omits, not the green screen omits.
With the GUI omits, you can omit a specific object on a SWA, ignore the
omits on a dedicated save.

SWA doesn't apply for IFS objects.
1) So can either let BRMS try, and deal with all the messages.
2) Add the items to your QLNKOMT list.
3) Change the ALWSAV attribute from *YES to *NO.
No matter which option you decide on, a BRMS recovery will fail due to
these
locked/skipped objects.

When I run STRBKUBRM I can use the default of OMITS(*PROCESS) or change it
to OMITS(*IGNORE). When running a restricted state backup I use
OMITS(*IGNORE). Does this parameter only affect IFS stuff set with the
QLNKOMT list?
How do you omit library objects from your control group when run daily but
be able to use the OMITS(*IGNORE) and get them to save during a dedicated
save?
