Dave

Have you looked at using the SYSTABLES catalog file? It should be only existing files. There is a FILE_TYPE column with a 'D' for data and an 'S' for source.

Why is one using DSPFD in the first place?

I use it in a CL program to get a specific list of physical files
across libraries into an output file format (QAFDPHY). I only need
library and file name from that output file. But it needs to be a list of
matching physical files, only. I pre-validate using the QDBRTVFD API that
the specified file name is an existing physical source file. I then loop
through that list of physical source files to match on member names from
those files. The results are loaded into a UIM list panel.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
