I am at vios 2.2.6.31.
I want to get up to the latest level of 3.
I figured I would upgrade to 2.2.6.32 first.

I've done a few of these within level 2. I have the steps down pretty
good. Going to 3 is a whole different animal. Kind of like the
difference between applying PTF's and doing a release upgrade. Instead of
updateios you use viosupgrade.

Upgrading from VIOS version 2.2.4 and above
The VIOS must first be upgraded to 3.1.0.00 before the 3.1.0.10 update can
be applied. To learn more about how to do that, please read the
information provided at
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/9009-42A/p9hb1/p9hb1_vios_migrate_viosupgrade_methods.htm

A wiki article is at
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en-us#!/wiki/Power%20Systems/page/Virtual%20IO%20Server%20(VIOS)%20upgrade%20method%20using%20mksysb%20install%20and%20viosbr

Does anyone have any "real world" examples? Or a cheat sheet they follow?

The documentation on updateios is pretty good compared to this.
