Does anybody know where I can find, for V6 and V7, the maximum number of
stream files that can be in an IFS directory, the maximum number of
subdirectories per directory, and the maximum number of directory nodes
that can be in the entire IFS?
Note that I'm not talking about the maximum number that WRKLNK can show;
rather, the maximum number that can exist.
Some years ago, we ran into a crisis on a customer system, in which we
unwittingly ran out of IFS directory nodes. We had to quickly redesign
the application to store the IFS data in ZIP archives, instead of in
subdirectories.
I don't clearly remember whether it was the maximum number of directory
nodes in the whole IFS, or the maximum number of subdirectories in a
directory. All I remember is that we had to deal with a "brick wall"
problem that took us completely by surprise.
