I think BRMS is your only option then. The tapes are encrypted as the are written on the host so the host has to do the de-encryption. That key is stored in QUSBRM although you have to back it up separately. If you know the pass phrase etc. you'll be able to use the BRMS encrypted tapes in a DR scenario.

cartridge .
We've lately upgraded our tape device to LTO7 just to make sure that all
fits on one cartridge
(make life much simpler when restoring) .
