I haven't done Mac in many years, but i do Linux regularly. On Linux, it won't connect by default if the server is not running SMB2.

Subject: Mapping Shared IFS folders to Mac

Anyone had any experience with doing this?

I'm getting an error that URLs of type smb: are not supported.

All documentation I can find relates to Windows. I have no trouble connecting to other servers (and for that matter connection to the i by other means).

OS is at 7.3.

I know it will be something idiotic but I haven't used a mapped drive for about 15 years and my ancient brain has forgotten everything I ever knew I guess.

And yes I have checked that the NetSvr is started.
