I tried this years ago, but I no longer have the docs I used. I found this on Google:

We gave up on this due to horrible performance (sub-second native queries took minutes over the linked server) and it required Db2 syntax (which the SQL Server people rejected).

I'm trying to see how well SSMS would work for front-ending some queries for large XLS extracts.

Does anyone have a working example of a Microsoft SSMS linked server connecting to IBM i that they can share?

The closest driver I can see in the SSMS drop-down would be Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers.  Will that work?
