An alternative might be a Robotic Process Automation (RPA) product like our Automate software that can be used to send email, receive email and about 600 other functionalities including call programs, read/write DB2 and other databases, Excel files, XML, HTML, JSON PDF and more.

The only catch is that it runs in a Windows environment but quite easily interacts with IBM i.

Think of it as CL programming for Windows.
