Yes you can and if you search for "Configure IBM i SMTP for sending mail via
GMAIL" you'll find a discussion about it.

Alternatively you can contact Bradley Stone and get his mailtool. (I'm not
affiliated with Brad in any way) . That's fast, easy, extremely well
priced, and supported by one of the guys that's made it work consistently.
