Doesn't work with all replication software though. For example PowerHA doesn't allow you to >use the backup data while you're replicating.
We create a FLASHCOPY of the replicated PowerHA mirror (iASP) , attach it to another partition and back it up to tape. The production/DR replication does not have to be stopped to do this either.

MIMIX though does work and I have customers doing this with MIMIX. This moves all that workload off production and when those query guys go mad and bury the system the production side doesn't even know!!
