| as or is a GNU extension to sed, and that is probably why it isn't
working.
sed -e 's|<Tag />|<Tag>Value</Tag>|' -e 's|<Tag
</Tag>|<Tag>Value</Tag>|' file_path
or
sed -e 's|<Tag />|<Tag>Value</Tag>|' file_path | sed -e
's|<Tag/></Tag>|<Tag>Value</Tag>|'

Subject: sed & or

Can anyone tell me how to get sed to work with an OR pattern match?
If I try
the standard pipe character, the command fails. I found on Google to
escape
the pipe with a backslash. That command runs, but the pattern doesn't
match.

Here's what I have that works (just one pattern):
sed 's|<Tag />|<Tag>Value</Tag>|' file_path

This command runs but doesn't match either pattern:
sed 's|<Tag />\|<Tag></Tag>|<Tag>Value</Tag>|' file_path

TIA
