As an aside, have you looked at iDate at www think400.dk/downloads.htm.

Instead if all the substringing and cating you just do

Select iDate(dtrtdt,'*ISO')
From your table

Gives you back a date data type.

Is the result the same if you hand key the statements in STRSQL vs copy and
paste? If so I think you might have a tab character in the failing
statement.
