I stand corrected. SHA-256 was introduced in 2001 according to Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-2

It does look like the API was introduced in V5R3 but IBM online documentation does not appear to go that far back.

documented as supporting SHA-256 in V5R4.
