I feel that this would be more effort than it is worth. Even from Academia. I teach college and feel that this would be a fruitless endeavor.

yes, for the academic reason i also would be interested in creating an suitable emulator,
but i think this will be lots of work ;-)
In general all would be possible to be emulated by software with low speed,
but this should be done by people knowing how to create an emulator
and get hands on the internal IBM documentation.
