Thanks for clarifying that PASE is a "subset" of AIX. That's a better way to say it (I just said it's "not 100% compatible" but I like the phrasing "subset" better).

But, compiling with GCC under PASE is not a new thing.  You said "nowadays" -- but, I've been  doing this for more than a decade.
