We are running a small Power6 system with a single partition/single system.
We are on V7.2 with the latest cume PTF applied temp.
Earlier this week we experienced a water issue that has left the HMC dead.
We are planning to migrate to a Power9 box soon, so purchase of an HMC
short
term, does not make sense and we plan to run the Power9 with a Lan Console.
We have acquired a PC that we can use for the LAN console. The only clear
instructions I can find for configuring a LAN Console are for a new Power
System that refer to "do not power on your new Power system until after you
complete the following steps." which include a manual power up from dead.
This has been (and is) our production box for over 8 years, sure don't want
to start over from scratch. Looking for some good, clear instructions on
what we need to do to make this conversion to the LAN console, can anyone
help?
Q2. If we IPL with out a console will we encounter problems (we do a
scheduled IPL every Sunday, I am wondering if we need to put it on hold
this
week).
As a result of the water damage, we have been relocated, but our phones
have
not been. I tried to open tickets online with IBM, but the first was closed
as soon as I hit submit. The second didn't get created when I hit submit.
So
I am turning to my friends here. Our Power system sustained no discernable
issues, yea.
