The point is, are the client's 9,000 users and the business behind them going to keep buying enough IBM I's to keep the platform alive?
I don't doubt that I can find large scale businesses using all kinds of antiquated methods of handling things. Heck, I imagine there are people on this list who know businesses that use IBM AS/400s (and I use the term on purpose) in S/36 mode.
In the meantime, other businesses are using RFID and automated reporting with no middleman at all. Give it 15 years and there will be few truck drivers, and most of those will be localized and parking vehicles that bring themselves to the right site.
The size of the sand castle doesn't matter when the tide is coming in.
