I would never use QYEAR for anything.
How about system value QDATETIME?
RTVSYSVAL QDATETIME returns a YYYYMMDDHHNNSSXXXXXX value. Substring the
first 4 bytes for the 4-digit year.
You have other options in RPG, but you're asking about system values in
