Ah but then the problem lies on when a s914 costs 24 to 32k. I dont know if
it's a regional thing but IBM i machines don't come under 80k over here.
32/40k is the price for the hw only. Hard to sell new machines when the
prices are that high. We have lot's of clients upgrading old machines until
they don't have any more life in them.
When a disk brand new costs 1500 usd but an used disk is around 300
(talking about p8 disks) some clients go the used way.

Given that your 520 is probably at least 12 years old, if you depreciated a
new S914 at $24,000 to $32,000 over 12 years - that would be a moderate
cost of $2,000 to $2,666 per year.

We were just given 5% off of the price of our P9's for trading in our
P8's. Not to say it may be like a car trade in where mark one down to
mark the other up but you end up with the same bottom line.
But there may be something to that used market.

Subject: Requesting vendor recommendation for used machines

Really need to upgrade our aging and soon to be unsupported System i 520,
but the boss has balked at the price of new machines. And doesn't like
the idea of the ongoing cost of the hosted options, although I would much
prefer to go that route.

Who's a good used-server vendor?

Thanks
