Hi, Brad,

(Just adding my two cents to the many good suggestions already offered ...)

Is your client on IBM i 7.3? If so, they could investigate the use of "temporal" tables in Db2i -- that gives you the ability to view data as it was at a given point in time.

For a low-cost solution, see:  http://www.kisco.com/ifa/ -- it has a browser interface...

NOTE: Journals are more for recovery and can be used to answer such questions, short-term. Journals might not be appropriate for longer-term storage of "historical" data. The problem is, you would need to maintain the journal and all the detached journal receivers in the chain, to cover the period of time you want to be able to query.   (This is why IBM developed "temporal tables" in Db2i -- see above.) There are some caveats to using Db2i's temporal tables ... unchecked, the amount of extra data stored in the "history" tables could "eat you out of house and home"  ... eventually.

There is also EXPJRNE -- Export Journal Entries, an open-source tool at: http://www.tools400.de/English/Freeware/Utilities/body_utilities.html -- page down to find it ...  With this tool, plus some "/wrapper/" code, you could "/roll-your-own/" solution for what you have described.

Hope that helps,
