Cfgdev is your friend.....
Yes, when hardware is added you generally have to cfgdev. That said, if
the zoning is done right only LUNS assigned to your partition, they should
just show up in IBM i . (just did it this morning in preparation for my
POWERUp18 session on Storwize)
I suspect you are adding a virtual fibre connection for a new partition? If
so, you have to use the GUI to map the storage device after cfgdev is used
to create it in VIOS. (Remember to do both VIOS instances assuming dual
VIOS)

I'm setting up another LPAR using a new V9 HMC. Storage folks added some
volumes to my FC connections, but in the 'enhanced' GUI, the disks don't
show up. If I putty into the VIOSes and issue cfgdev, then they show up
in the gui. Does the HMC ever issue cfgdev automatically, or do I have to
force it to do it somehow? Or does one still have to use CLI cfgdev if you
want to add stuff without bouncing VIOS?
