Well, it shouldn't be a mystery, but then I suppose I unwillingly obfuscated
the problem.

So, imagine that one has an actual, real, physical printer attached to the
PC. One might want to configure it so that System i printer output would
print directly to it - without going through any hoops.

So maybe the PDF printer ain't something one can actually touch, but it is
real (at least Windows 7 thinks so and I use it frequently for Windows
stuff).

As I told someone off-list, I have heard about the native version on this
list and at Common. The method I've outlined is not only easy for me but,
more importantly, a piece of cake for my users.

Have I mentioned lately that I hate printers? If anything is going to
break/go wrong, it's almost guaranteed to be the printer. But (sigh) they
are necessary.

Well, I really have no idea what you are trying to get.
Are you trying to generate a PDF file, and back on ancient versions of
the
OS you did this by printing to some attached Windows printer?
Or are you trying to print to this one physical printer and it only
prints
PDF files?
Knowing the desired end result will really help. For example, on
currently supported versions of the OS I would load on the free 5770-TS1,
change a few parameters in a printer file and simply have that generate a
PDF file.

For years on V5R1 and V5R4 I used PDF printers on Windows that I

and used for System i reports also. Originally it was the PDF printer

Well, we finally moved to a 7.3 system. The printer is still defined the
same way on the new System i. And, it seems, I created in Windows using
the
ACS Session Manager using the "Other Printer" option and the PFD995
device.

But, when I move a report to PZ, the report disappears (is completed) on
the
System i but never "prints" in my open/connected PZ printer on my PC. If
the PZ printer is not connected in Windows (ACS), it stays in 'Ready'
mode
on the System i, which is naturally as it should be.

I hope I have included sufficient information, but I'm willing to supply
more. Any suggestions as to where I should search for the
problem/solution
would be appreciated.
