One thing I use in ALL my VIOS installs or updates is:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1021067
Handy tip to manage the backspace key, to get history functionality (with
the up and down keys) and most important, know what VIOS you are working on.
I also use Putty for all my ssh needs, and with the config mentioned above
I don't need to change terminal settings.
Best Regards,
Roberto

I don't know why they insist on the Korn shell. If you started VI mode you
can get much closer to the behavior you want. Now if they would put the
BASH shell in, that would eliminate 90% of my complaints with VIOS.

Just used my normal putty client again. When I go direct into vios my
backspace key continues to work as a destructive backspace.
However when I go into my hmc and then use vtmenu to get into vios my
backspace inserts some sort of control character. Rather frustrating when
you are entering in a long command and get a typo.
