Yes I do have IBM i hosting IBM i
and IBM i hosting AIX.
Was it "not supported at all", or was it a matter of command line
interface only?

I have it running places and it's OK, HOWEVER, make sure the version you
pick supports IBM i hosting IBM i since I think you need that(if memory
serves me correctly). Aside from the idiotic changes they made to the UI,
that's the only real reason not to go there. 8.8.6 is on most machines
since it does support IBM i hosting. Maybe they finally added that
support, I've not looked in awhile but as I remember it that was the
biggest problem with HMC V9.
