I've done it with ftp between lpars or systems (going back many years,
before web services existed).
The client system puts a file (with request data) on another system and then
issues a SBMJOB (or call)
The server system runs its work, creates a response, puts that file back to
the client and issues a SBMJOB or call
(or better to use triggers.. no need for unlock ftp running commands )
The request data includes the source system, so all can be handled as
variables, no need to hardcode stuff.
It's crude by todays standards, but it works
We are still running package software that uses ftp between systems -
Have also used it with Win servers.
