Hi Kendall,

just one answer to multiple postings to this topic::
@Oracle gateway: this doesn't run under V7xx and has been rather expensive
@IBM federation server (or as it might be named today: much more expensive and hard to install and configure
@JDBCR4: Open Source, limited scalability, hard to use (no standard SQL inetrface)
@ArdGate: Open Source, you could use embedded SQL in RPG, fast from the first call, unlimited scalability
@Razlee DBGATE: commercial, closest to ArdGate, maybe less installations?
@some other commercial solutions: no embedded SQL, additional servers needed

For all of these: you can't use two diffrent databases within one select or update (Think ybout why!) There is only one usecase for a mixup: create table localdb.xxx as (select ... from remotedb....)

For ArdGate, never the less you could have multiple connections to multiple databases, reading from one database, switching the connection writing to another database, switching back and so on. This is no limitation of ArdGate, it's a limitation of DB2. Mostly ArdGate is the fastpath to get it to work!!! It's installed within less than one day (it takes me less than 3 hours) and you could use your expertise in programming with embedded SQL in RPG or COBOL, even QMQRY would work.
