James,

The QSZRTVPR is an API that does this, among other things.

Here is a simple sample program to show how to use this API:

PGM
    DCL &PIF *CHAR 27 VALUE('*OPSYS *CUR 0000*CODE')
    DCL &PRDR0100 *CHAR 100
    DCL &PRODUCT  *CHAR 10
    DCL &RELEASE  *CHAR 10
    DCL &MSGDTA   *CHAR 100
    DCL &LEN *CHAR 4 VALUE(X'00000064')
    DCL &ERR *CHAR 100 VALUE(X'00000040')
    CALL PGM(QSZRTVPR) PARM(&PRDR0100 &LEN 'PRDR0100' &PIF &ERR)
    CHGVAR VAR(&PRODUCT) VALUE(%SST(&PRDR0100 13 7))
    CHGVAR VAR(&RELEASE) VALUE(%SST(&PRDR0100 20 6))
    CHGVAR VAR(&MSGDTA) VALUE(&PRODUCT || ' ' || &RELEASE)
    SNDPGMMSG  MSGID(CPF9898) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG) +
                 MSGDTA(&MSGDTA) TOPGMQ(*PRV (*))
RETURN
ENDPGM

Got a customer box for which I'd like to identify the OS version/release/mod. We don't have access to GO LICPGM (the menu comes up completely blank), and we don't have full installations of either QuestView or Wintouch on that particular box, so we can't use their authorization code management utilities (which retrieve and display that information, among other things).

Anybody know of another way to get that information?
