We had the same problem, except the application was using SNDDST *LMSG.

The email people worked on that for a long time. They asked me to make
sure the sending user id had our valid SMTP user id and Domain.

Since we didn't want to add the correct domain information to thousands of
users, we changed the programs to send from one noreply user and set that
up properly.

Doug,

If the dist list is in your mail server, not the i, make sure you're IBM i
is actually using your mail server.

CHGSMTPA

should have:

Firwall *YES
Mail Router (your mail router)
Forwarding Hub Server (same as mail router)

Any changes require stop and restart of *SMTP.

You should also be able to see on the mail server logs if it's even hitting
it and even possibly why it's not picking up the distribution list.

I've seen many customers and non customers set this up wrong and the emails
are delivered directly without any email server/router (which is the norm)
and if it works they don't care if it's set up right or not. Even if not
all emails are delivered (which they don't realize for a long time).

I also offer my MAILTOOL Plus software for free for much better
testing/logging if need be. Feel free to contact me offline if you want
help with that. This article also may help:

Bryan,

We do have the distribution list set up in our email system, but for some
reason the SNDSMTPEMM command does not utilize it when sending the
email. I
don't know why. It is almost like it does not know what it is. Is there
something that needs to be set up to have IBM i look at the distribution
list in outlook and be able to access it?

Thank you,

Doug
