Well, for developing your development skills I think you're on the right
track to be current vs something really old and obsolete (like some cheap
box which will still run V4Rsomething). I'd hate not having access to the
latest compilers, etc.

Not sure how much having your local hardware really fixes your hardware
junkie needs. It may, but then again, everything seems to vary so much
from one model to another. For example,
- cache battery removal (if the box even has cache batteries)
- scsi vs fiber connection. And will what you learn on a P7 xfer to a P9
But then again, maybe it does. Like skills learned attaching lan console.

This may be where you need to talk to a BP (Business Partner) and see if
they can quote you a system. There are some BP's on this list that also
are personal home hobbyists with this stuff too. But I think they have
their pet gorilla to sick on you if they work you out a quote and then you
walk it over to some big BP (like the one I use) and ask them to quote you
this exact setup. And, unless you've shared a few cold ones with your
local BP at your local user group they often aren't too eager in helping
out the hobbyist. They have kids to feed.
