I'd be curious to know what that job was.
There are some special "user" jobs which actually retain the same job
name/user/number even across IPL's.
One which quickly comes to mind is the job associated with sending someone
a spool file with SNDNETSPLF. The job QPRTJOB.
WRKJOB QPRTJOB
Entered
Job User Number Type -----Status----- System
...
QPRTJOB EDIJOB 578318 PRINT OUTQ 07/15/16
...
Noticed that it entered the system on 7/15/16? And the job number is
578318? We IPL every quarter to do maintenance, PTF's, etc. And yet it
still has spool files, even from today.
The only way to kill this job and get it to generate a new one is to end
it with the option to delete all of it's spool files.
ENDJOB JOB(578318/EDIJOB/QPRTJOB) OPTION(*IMMED) SPLFILE(*YES)
Pretty much been the situation since even back on the AS/400.
