I believe in the 80 / 20 rule

80% of programs (Menu options) are used 20% of the time

20% of programs are used 80% of the time.

So the table maintenance and parameters setting options can remain in
green screen as these are used rarely and hopefully by system admin types
whereas the commonly used programs are used all the time.

We ran some analysis over our menu system usage to identify the most used
options and then divided these into two groups - Enquiries/Reports and
Updates.

We started with the Enquiries and we are using PHP but I want to go back
and look at CGIDEV2. (We used CGIDEV well I should not really say used,
we played with) a long time ago and have not touched it since.

We have developed a web portal using PHP and all logic still remains in
ILE with procedure calls from the PHP and this works very well.

And someone said you should engage a professional to do the CSS and I
totally agree as I am one of the few that can see beauty in a green screen
design :-(

back from younger employees?

We are about to start the very same project and for the very same
reasons. Younger employees are turned off by the green screen and
management wants something more modern looking.

They also want something more intuituve and feel that with a GUI
interface and buttons instead of enter keys, and drop downlists instead
of pop-up windows, will be more attractive to the new employees and
easier to learn.

We are not going to reface our entire ERP, but the marketing and
management applications are the target of this initiative.

We too, are at the point in the project where are trying to determine
the best way to go.

I'm just curious if others have run into this as a reason to 'modernize'
their applications.
