I appreciate that Ken. The 5250 screen-at-a-time is about as old-school
as we can get in the 21st Century. But for many of us, its what we
have. We are not the deciders; we have to make-do with what we have.
But we do have radio buttons. We do have check boxes. We do have
scroll bars. We can learn from the new guys; we don't have to get upset
at the 9999-limit on subfiles, and we can learn that the rest of the
world thinks in terms of 50 record subfiles.
If you do look at some of my samples, you might also notice a "Ventures"
image on my home page. Clicking that gives you a web page. The web
page is on my site, but the folder it is in is a direct copy from an
iSeries hosted web site that I set up on an iSeries, including the .js
and .css files. I believe that it meets today's need for a GUI
interface, it runs on an iSeries, and it does not require any special
software packages to be used. Its right there, waiting for you and I to
take advantage of what we already have.
In other words I believe that right now, today, we can get together with
the new kids and design applications. With the tools we already have we
can build balanced, bullet-proof, and modern interfaces for our users.
Just a word of warning: we green-screeners are not noted for our
artistic abilities. Let others design your .css files. :)

(As a thought-game, think of the US Presidents application as, say, the
open-orders file. And, as you mouseover the orders, the details for
each order appears in the details window. )
(disclaimer: I am NOT an expert on any of this. Some of it is easy;
some isn't. Some of it is beyond me but that is, in my opinion, my
shortcoming, not the iSeries'.)
