Having different ODBC/JDBC drivers behave differently

an implementation within the ACS client, as opposed to a configuration
setting on the server.

The reference I posted doesn't mention that. Is there a reference that
you know of that documents this behaviour to be dependent upon the client?

I know it's only empirical evidence, but I've been relying on this
profile switching behaviour for more than 10 years, and with a variety
of clients from .NET to Java and a lot in between. If my... success is
accidental, I'd like to know about it!
