This is what was happening specifically:

1. Login to ibm site
2. request PTF groups we want (have to manually see which ones we are behind on)
3. IBM would create a special PTF download location on an FTP site
4. Get email with the special download location
5. Click the ftp:// link
6. Download each file one by one (could have used filezilla or something as an easier step)
7. Copy files to IFS
8. load the image catalog

I was envisioning a "request ptf" command on IBM I that would cross reference all installed products on the IBMi and show you just the ones you were behind one, then put a "1" next to the ones you want to update, and it would begin downloading automatically.

I actually don't have a clue.

My colleague is going through a multiple of PTF retrieval and FTP steps. I was watching, and I wondered why it was so many steps.

Every OS I know of has this (Linux = Apt-get update, Windows = Windows Update, OS X = App store updates), so I assume IBM has it as well but we are just not informed of the best way to go about it.

Is this one you already knew so that you can answer with some smirky "Well, Windows has this..."?

Hi all,

Probably an easy question.

What command in a 5250 session will show me all PTF's that I am behind,
and allow me to place a checkmark next to each one and
download/auto-update the system.

Thanks!
