SQL result data types -- MIDRANGE-L

I don't understand the SQL result data types. I do something like the
following, and I get all '++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++' in the result in
the STRSQL interface. Does someone understand how SQL is trying to help me
and failing? In this case, ICLEAD is a 3p0 (packed) from a data file.

select iclead/(5/7)*2
from CIC
