So to read between the lines here and other recent posts, the handwriting, spray painting, neon signs, and the bat signal are all pointing to i 7.1's day in the silicon as coming to a close.

Yes, you can get Java 7 & 8 for IBM i 7.1 but you have to get them from
ESS as they are not shipped on media.
