That's what we did-- the V7000 behind the V9000 until all the data was copied, then the V7000 went away.

Would be a rather cool thing to know! We have always had to go to DST to copy the load source. Unless they put the V7000 behind the V9000 and the SAN actually did all the work, not IBM i.

Dear Doctor--

We moved from a V7000 to a V9000. Our business partner worked some magic and the load source moved along with all of the other data...

IIRC, there's a magic flag you set in one of the extents.

One of the big benefits of transitioning from internal disk to V7000 SAN disk on our iSeries, was that we didn't need any downtime as we migrated data from the old disk to the new SAN disk.

We just configured and mapped a bunch of V7000 SAN disk to our iSeries, and using SST, added them to the ASP (in this case ASP1 - *SYSBAS) and then started removing the internal disk from the disk configuration. As the internal disk were removed, all the data on them was automatically migrated to the SAN disk. We did this slowly over a few days, but there was not a second of downtime for our applications as this was being done!

Best part, no need for SAV/RST...
