Get longer racks????

Yeah it's a problem if you don't use IBM Racks and we have fought this in many places.

One thing that I have done with some success is to leave 1U of space above the server. I cable the server initially with it pulled fully out of the rack to assure all cables are long enough. Then before rolling it in use sufficient velcro to wrap the cables into two bundles, one for Power and one for data.(*1) Next roll the server all the way into the rack with the cable bundles on TOP of the server. I have used light springs (such as those from the outside of the 5887/5877 rack rails) from the front of the rack to the bundles to keep them above the server. When you roll the server out for service the bundles just play out nicely.

This also blocks less airflow than the cable arm as it works out. It uses 1U of space but it also works in a short rack. YMMV.

(*1) IBM Tells us to keep certain cables away from power and then gives us an arm to put both into. Silly isn't it. :-)

Hi all,

I am in the process of getting us from an i5 to the new Power 8 41A.

On the current i5 there is a cable carrier that fits nicely.

The 41A is a longer case. After trying to mount the new cable carrier, it does not fit in the rack.
The carrier sticks out a couple of inches so the doors cannot be closed.

We have 6 racks, all the same.

Any suggestions?
