And Terry got to this by putting his cursor on the data line and pressing F1 - it is not always obvious that this help is available - things likd DSPFD are just a spooled-file display and do not have this help.

Here are thhe results for the help (F1) - nothing I would worry about :)

Offline Size - Help
The size of the object in bytes at the time of a save; zero (0) if
the object was not saved. This value defines the amount of storage
that is required if the object is to be restored.
Note: This value may be much larger than the value displayed
for the Size field as the system uses all sections of the
logical file to calculate the offline size value. Shared
sections are not used, however, to calculate the size value.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] File Size vs. Offline File Size

Afternoon, All.

We found a rogue file on our development box that was consuming a lot of disk space (the file had in excess of 750 million records in it). I cleared the file out using the good old CLRPFM command and it seems to have fixed the problem.

However, when I run a DSPOBJD on the file I see this:

Storage information:
Size . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 90112
Offline size . . . . . . . . . . . . : 54729461760
Associated space size . . . . . . . : 4096
Optimum space alignment . . . . . . : YES
Freed . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : NO
Compressed . . . . . . . . . . . . . : INELIGIBLE
Object ASP number . . . . . . . . . : 1
Object overflowed . . . . . . . . : NO
Object ASP device . . . . . . . . . : *SYSBAS
Object ASP group . . . . . . . . . . : *SYSBAS

Should I be concerned about the offline file size? If so, how do I correct it?

Thx.

/b;
