IBM introduced "SQL/DS" for DOS/VSE and VM/CMS in 1981.

"DATABASE 2" was announced for MVS in June of 1983.

"DATABASE 2 AIX/6000" was announced in March, 1993

On System/38 and early AS/400 releases, the built-in database had no official name.

In the late 1990s, SQL/DS was re-branded to "DB2 for VM and VSE".

So, this is by no means the first time that IBM has renamed "DB2"...

Instead of DB2 it will now be called Db2.

I thought that would make your day.
