no it doesn't get a blob of data it has to parse out.

The DB "breaks" the data into rows & columns before returning it as a
results set.

AFAIK, the neither the ODBC/JDBC driver nor the calling program see any
difference from a RS created from an RPG array/MODS and one created by a
SQL cursor.
