Rumors support this statement. These rumors indicate 'more pain' than with extended support on previous releases.

Considering that i 7.1 has been around a LONG time and that the upgrade to i 7.2 or 7.3 is vastly simpler than upgrades from say i 5.4 were for many customers. Thus it makes sense for IBM to suggest customers move off i 7.1 soon when they have declared an EOS date.
