Yes, we had a 1403 and then a 1403N1 (Nancy1) with the automatic lid. You had to make sure nothing was sitting on the top of the printer when you lifted it. Especially the Nancy1, if you accidently hit the "Lift"? button.

1403 (like hot coffee or a box of cards) and it ran out of paper?
Or how about when the control tape was too worn and it kept forms feeding until it was stopped or ran out of paper.
Regarding the MFCU, yes I *did* have another name for it. Especially when there was a card jam and one of the cards was mangled.
